Seville Cathedral

Seville Cathedral, or Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, stands proudly as an iconic symbol of Seville's rich and complex history. Constructed over a period of over 100 years beginning in the 15th century, it's famed for being the third largest church in the world and the largest Gothic church. As you approach, its sheer size is nothing short of breathtaking, with soaring spires reaching towards the heavens and elaborate, intricate stonework that unfolds like a story across its facade.

Step inside and you'll find yourself in an epic, vaulted space, bathed in a gentle glow filtered through the array of spectacular stained glass windows. Pause and marvel at the high altar, a work of art in itself with meticulously detailed wood carvings gilded in gold. Here, the nave culminates in the magnificent Capilla Mayor, a vision of Gothic architecture at its finest.

The cathedral is also known for housing the tomb of the famed explorer Christopher Columbus. It's a solemn and somewhat surreal experience, standing there and reflecting on the fact that one of history's most famous explorers found his final resting place here.

The crowning jewel, quite literally, of the Seville Cathedral is La Giralda, the former minaret turned bell tower. The winding climb to the top may be a bit of a challenge, but the panoramic views of Seville from the top are absolutely worth it.
